The short version. Your emails and evidence stay on your computer. CaseRelief never uploads your email content, attachments, or evidence files anywhere. There is no telemetry, no analytics, and no tracking in the app or on this website.
If you buy a Pro license, we store the minimum needed to make it work: your email address, order ID, and an anonymous device code. Payment is handled by Lemon Squeezy; we never see your card number. We send you one email, with your license key. That's the whole story.
CaseRelief is operated as a sole proprietorship by its founder in British Columbia, Canada, doing business as "CaseRelief." For privacy inquiries and data requests, contact privacy@caserelief.net. The founder is the designated privacy officer responsible for personal information under Canadian law.
In this policy, "CaseRelief," "we," "us," and "our" refer to that operator. "You" refers to the person using the CaseRelief desktop application (the "App") or visiting caserelief.net (the "Website").
This is the most important section. The App runs entirely on your computer. When you connect an email account (IMAP or Microsoft Graph), import an email file (.mbox, .eml, .zip), extract text from attachments, run OCR on scanned documents, or generate evidence files and PDF exhibits, all of that happens locally. Specifically, we never receive, transmit, access, or store:
Mail.Read) and keeps tokens local, encrypted the same way.The App contains no advertising, no analytics, no telemetry, and no tracking of any kind.
We collect personal data in exactly two situations: when you purchase a Pro license, and when you activate it on a device.
| Data | Where it comes from | Why we keep it |
|---|---|---|
| Email address | Your purchase (via Lemon Squeezy) | Delivering your license key; support lookups |
| Order and customer IDs | Lemon Squeezy | Linking your license to your order for refunds |
| License ID and plan | Generated by us | Making your license work |
| Device code | The App, on activation | Enforcing the 2-device limit |
| Device name | The App, on activation (your computer's Windows name, which may include a personal name if you named it that way) | Shown to you so you can tell your devices apart |
| App version and activation timestamps | The App / generated by us | Support and license administration |
About the device code: it is a 16-character value derived by one-way hash (SHA-256) from a Windows install identifier. It identifies your Windows installation to our license server without revealing anything about you or your hardware. The underlying identifier never leaves your machine.
What we don't store: we do not store your IP address in our database. Our infrastructure provider (Cloudflare) may log IP addresses transiently as part of normal operation.
Under Canadian law (PIPEDA and Quebec's private-sector privacy act): we collect this information with your consent, given at purchase, for purposes a reasonable person would consider appropriate: running the license you bought.
The App checks our update server for new versions. That request carries only the app version. No personal data, no device code, no license information.
While a Pro license is active, the App also periodically revalidates the license with our server. That request carries the license and device data described in the table above. Never your emails, files, or anything else. These checks stop for good about four months after purchase; from then on, Pro runs fully offline and the App never contacts our server again.
caserelief.net is a static site hosted on Cloudflare Pages. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics scripts, and requires no account. Fonts are self-hosted, so your browser makes no requests to third parties. When you download the installer, we count the download as an anonymous daily tally; no IP address, browser details, or any personal information is recorded with it.
When you contact support@ or privacy@, we receive and keep that correspondence for as long as needed to handle your request and a reasonable period afterward. Don't include sensitive case details in support emails; we don't need them to help you with the software.
Evidence files and exhibits live on your computer. If you choose to share one with anyone (a lawyer, a legal aid clinic, an AI assistant, a cloud service), that sharing happens outside CaseRelief and is governed by the recipient's own privacy practices, not this policy. The App itself never shares them.
License delivery, license activation and validation, refund and chargeback processing, and support when you email us. Nothing else. No marketing, no profiling, no advertising, and we never sell or share your personal information.
| Provider | Role | What they handle |
|---|---|---|
| Lemon Squeezy | Merchant of Record: processes your payment, calculates and remits sales tax | Payment card data (we never see it), billing details, your email |
| Cloudflare | Hosts the Website, the licensing service, and update files | Licensing data (stored); IP addresses (transient infrastructure logs) |
| Resend | Sends the license-key email | Your email address and license key |
| Microsoft | Sign-in for Outlook/Microsoft 365 accounts (optional; the sign-in happens between your browser and Microsoft) | Your Microsoft credentials; tokens stay on your device |
Because you buy through a Merchant of Record, Lemon Squeezy, not CaseRelief, is the seller of record responsible for payment processing and the related financial compliance.
The licensing service runs on Cloudflare's network, and Lemon Squeezy and Resend are US companies, so the small amount of licensing data described above is stored and processed in the United States (and on Cloudflare's global infrastructure). Each provider maintains its own contractual data-protection safeguards. If you are in Canada, this means your licensing data (email address, order details, device code) is communicated outside Canada; the providers above are bound by their data processing agreements to protect it.
%APPDATA%\caserelief\ folder and the %APPDATA%\caserelief_license.key file.Because we hold so little, exercising your rights is simple. Email privacy@caserelief.net from the address associated with your purchase (that's how we verify it's you), and we will respond within 30 days.
Under PIPEDA and Quebec's Law 25, you may access your personal information, correct it, withdraw consent, request deletion, and receive a copy in a portable format. You may also complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or, in Quebec, the Commission d'accès à l'information.
Under the CCPA/CPRA (California) and similar laws in other states, you may know what we collect (this page is the complete list), access it, correct it, delete it, and opt out of sale or sharing. We do not sell or share personal information and never have, including in the twelve months preceding the date above. We do not collect sensitive personal information as those laws define it, and we will never discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
CaseRelief is sold to residents of the United States and Canada, but we honor access, correction, and deletion requests from anyone whose data we hold, wherever you live. Email privacy@caserelief.net.
If we receive a subpoena, court order, or other legal demand for the licensing data we hold, we will disclose only what the law compels, and where the law allows it, we will notify you before responding. Remember what that means in practice: the most anyone can compel from us is your email address, order details, and an anonymous device code. We cannot produce your emails, your evidence files, or your exhibits, because we have never had them.
CaseRelief is built for adults involved in legal proceedings. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, contact privacy@caserelief.net and we will delete it.
The licensing service uses cryptographic signatures (Ed25519) for licenses and activations, HMAC verification for payment webhooks, rate limiting, and secret storage separated from source code. On your device, credentials are encrypted with Windows DPAPI so they cannot be read if copied to another machine or user account. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your personal data, we will notify you and the appropriate authorities as required by law.
If we change this policy materially, we will post a notice on the Website and update the date at the top. The current version always lives at this address.
